Researchers in the world of business, organizations, and local churches have discovered over the decades that specific practices have been present if there is growth and prosperity.  Kouzes and Posner’s book, “The Leadership Challenge” gives the historical and global practices in the Biblical teaching and excellence of Christian leaders.  The five practices are:

  • Vision -  It is always important to have a solid foundation, providing meaning and purposeful existence.  Vision enables a person or an organization to be motivated and engage in daily activities.

  • Challenge to the Process -  No matter where a church or a people are on life’s cycle, it is important to identify and recognize that they can and must improve.

  • Set the Example – It has been noted that people in churches or in any organization do their best growth or prosperity when they have formal or informal leaders who set the example. They not only tell them what to do, they personally demonstrate it in their daily life.

  • Training -  All organizations moving forward with health and growth have regular ongoing training opportunities.

  • Encourage the Heart – The center of every organization and church are people. All people always need encouragement.  This is true of paid workers as it is with volunteers.  “Encouraging the heart” may take the form of a simple thank you or it may be a well-planned celebration event. It is essential.
